Jay-Z New Deal With Universal Music Group : Jay’s Made In America Fest To Return To Philly

Hip Hop mogul, Jay-Z continues to expand his empire. Just days after announcing his newest venture as a sports agent and Roc Nation’s signing of Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, comes the announcement of his new deal with Universal Music Group. According to “The New York Times,” the multi-year partnership will release Jay-Z’s Roc Nation record label from it's Sony Music contract and place them in a deal with Universal music group. Although the exact terms of the partnership were not disclosed, sources report that it definitely a competitive bid to get the music pioneer's business.
Jay-Z’s Roc Nation was birthed in 2008 as part of a 150-million-dollar partnership with Live Nation. Roc Nation consists of a record label, music publishing, and an impressive artist roster which includes, Rihanna, Shakira, Timbaland, M.I.A. and Kylie Minogue.
Jay-Z stated Roc Nation’s new deal with Universal Music Group will present a “unique opportunity” for the label’s artists to continue to operate as an independent label with the strength, power and reach of what he called “the best major.”
Jay-Z’s famed music festival is also returning to Philadelphia for a second year. The two-day, multi-artist "Made In America" event will revisit it's previous venue, the Benjamin Franklin Parkway from August 31st to September 1st. Details of the artist lineup is scheduled to be announced on April 10th via Spotify.
Last year’s line up included Jay-Z himself, Pearl Jam, Drake, Run D.M.C., Passion Pitt and a surprise appearance from Kanye West. The event was sponsored by Budweiser, and a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales were donated to the United Way and several local charities in the Philadelphia area.
